THERE IS A LOT TO LOOK AT IN THE WORLD TODAY. CONSTANTLY, FEVERISHLY, UNAVOIDABLY. IT’S REFRESHING TO DISCOVER AN ARTIST WHOSE WORK CAN DIRECT YOUR EYES SO SPECIFICALLY PAST THE COLLECTIVE INSPIRATIONS, PATTERNS, AND MESSAGES OF NOW AND CAN TAKE YOU TO A PERSONAL SPACE. A SPACE WHERE THE EXCHANGE BETWEEN IMAGES IS SOMETHING FRESH AND THE EXPRESSION IS NEW.

MANY OF JAMIE’S PIECES ARE RELATIONSHIP-BUILDING, WITH A PHOTOGRAPH LEADING TO A DRAWING. HIS IMAGE MAKING COMES PARTLY THROUGH A REDUCTIVE PROCESS, CONSIDERING THE ELEMENTS THAT MAKE A PHOTOGRAPH NOTEWORTHY (COMPOSITION, LIGHT EFFECTS, COLOR). THE REMOVAL OF THOSE EXTRA PARTS IS WHAT INFLUENCES THE FINAL IMAGE–AN IMAGE REMAINING FOR ITS GRAPHIC QUALITIES. SHAPES ARE ISOLATED, CATALOGED AND REPEATED, CROPPED TO SHOW THE SIMPLICITY THAT AN IMAGE CAN HOLD.

THESE WORKS ARE “SELECTED” IN WHAT THE IMAGE OFFERS FOR YOU TO SEE AND FEEL. A GRAY SCALE CAN BECOME IMAGININGS OF ACTIONS. NATURAL AND FLUORESCENT LIGHT CAN, IN FACT, DANCE NICELY TOGETHER. A BLACK AND WHITE LANDSCAPE CAN SHOW COLOR. THE HARMONY BETWEEN THE PHOTOS AND THE DRAWINGS SHOWS CHALLENGE AND EXPERIMENT AND HOW “TAKING AWAY” CAN MAKE VERY BEAUTIFUL PORTRAITS OF SHAPES.
